It’s cold ya’ll!!!
With winter comes runny noses, sinus headaches, colds and the ultimate worse – THE FLU! Yuck! Did you know that the flu shot was 10% effective this year? I have seen multiple reports suggesting more home remedies than over the counter medications. I am NOT a conventional medicine taker. I LOVE going into my kitchen and whipping up something that will help my body fight whatever is attacking it. Here’s my carrot cranberry juice that your immune system will love!
Last week the sniffles got me! So I grabbed some winter staples and went to work! This beauty is called my Ginger Lemon Elixir. Ginger is known for boosting the immune system, and can also help digestion and fight nausea. Read more about ginger here. Lemon like most citrus fruits are extremely high in vitamin C and help alkalize the body which promotes pH balance. When your body is balanced, it can begin to healing itself and to quenching disease.
This golden spice is one of my favorites. I add turmeric to everything from oatmeal to soups and smoothies. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties which helps with just about EVERYTHING! Turmeric also has antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and can heal wounds. What??? It’s amazing! So needless to say, it’s included in this elixir. You can find turmeric in root or powdered form.
- 5 inches of fresh ginger
- juice from 2 fresh lemons
- juice from 1 orange
- 2 TBS of turmeric powder
- honey to taste
- Blend or grate ginger, then boil in 2 – 3 cups of water. This will be your ginger base. Strain the ginger tea and add to a pitcher.
- Squeeze the lemon juice into the pitcher
- Squeeze the orange juice into the pitcher
- Add turmeric to pitcher
- Add honey to taste to pitcher
- Stir well and drink as much as you can!
